Trattoria Capri

If you ever find yourself wandering the charming streets of Plymouth’s historic Barbican and catch the scent of garlic, herbs, and oven-baked perfection wafting through the air, chances are it’s coming from Trattoria Capri-a warm and inviting Italian gem tucked right at 41-42 Southside St, Plymouth PL1 2LD. This is not your average tourist trap Italian. This is the kind of place where dishes are plated with soul, wine flows like conversation, and every bite whispers stories of the Amalfi coast.

The moment you step into Trattoria Capri, the rustic interiors and cozy layout immediately set a tone of comfort and authenticity. Wooden accents, soft lighting, and the comforting hum of laughter and clinking glasses transport you straight to a family-run eatery in southern Italy. For those dining solo or with a small group, the wheelchair-accessible seating ensures everyone can enjoy the Capri experience.

Let’s talk food-because that’s where Trattoria Capri absolutely sings. Whether you’re popping in for a hearty lunch or a relaxed dinner, this place knows how to hit all the right notes. A great starting point? The Bruschetta. Simple, crisp, fresh, and packed with vibrant flavor, it sets the tone beautifully. The Mozzarella Stuffed Arancini are another must-try-golden on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside, with just the right hint of herbs.

If you’re in the mood for pasta (and let’s be honest, who isn’t?), the Spaghetti Carbonara is rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned, while the Tagliatelle Alfredo delivers that silky, indulgent texture that Alfredo fans dream of. Meat lovers might lean toward the Italian Style Meatballs or the hearty Lasagna, each one layered with robust sauces that taste like Nonna made them herself.

Seafood fans aren’t left behind either. The Linguine Pescadore, with its medley of fresh mussels, prawns, and clams, swims in a rich tomato-based sauce that balances zest and sweetness. Prefer something with a bit more flair? The Garlic Gamberetti (garlic prawns) are an absolute winner-served sizzling and aromatic.

Pizza purists, rejoice. Their Pizza Tonno brings together tuna, olives, and onions on a thin, crispy base with just the right amount of chew. It’s not overloaded, but instead thoughtfully balanced-the way real Italian pizza should be.

But it would be criminal not to save room for dessert. The Homemade Tiramisu is dreamy-light, creamy, and just boozy enough to give you that perfect end-of-meal buzz. Or go for the Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake if you're chasing comfort. Their Cannoli, with crisp pastry shells and sweet ricotta filling, add an authentic touch of Sicilian delight.

And then there's the drinks. Whether you're sipping on a crisp glass of white wine, a bold red, or exploring the cocktail menu, you’ll find the wine list to be thoughtfully curated-plenty of Italian choices that pair effortlessly with the dishes. Fancy a beer instead? They’ve got you covered there too, making it a great casual stop for a relaxed night out. Oh, and yes-they serve great coffee, so whether it’s a post-lunch espresso or a late-night cappuccino, your caffeine cravings won’t go unanswered.

Capri also shines for its flexibility. It’s a popular pick for both lunch and dinner, and if you’re just swinging by to grab a bite on the go, their takeaway service comes in handy. However, there’s no delivery-which, honestly, just gives you one more reason to enjoy the food the way it was meant to be: fresh from the kitchen, surrounded by the restaurant’s ambiance.

Perfect for solo diners, couples, or friends looking to unwind over plates of pasta and generous pours of vino, Trattoria Capri nails that elusive blend of homestyle cooking and warm hospitality. It's the kind of place you keep coming back to-not just for the food, but for the feeling.

Recommended by my daughters and I wasn't disappointed. Arancini to start and salmon florentine. Huge portions and so yummy.

This restaurant is an absolute gem of a find came here as a group of 20+ for a work event and it was just brilliant. The food is so good, fresh and full of flavour, reasonably priced and good portion sizes. The cheesecake is the best I have ever had. However what makes this restaurant exceptional is the staff. They are not just asking "is everything ok" they mean it, they care and want to ensure you have a good meal and good time which we absolutely did - thank you

Booked for evening meal last minute. They were very friendly and accommodating, service was fantastic and the food was amazing! The portion sizes could comfortably be much smaller, especially given the quality and price. Really did not expect the meals to be of this quality and size. Would definitely recommend. Will be going back as the menu had plenty on we didn't get to try.

The food portion is very large, I barely eat all of them, but the taste is good. The price is also reasonable.
